Quake3 trouble- No help from Q3World...

I've been having trouble getting into Quake 3 games. Two different things happen, but they are very similar. Sometimes, after the "awaiting snapshot" has loaded, the dark, black shadow of one of the quake 3 models will appear on the snapshot screen, it may move a little bit, I hear the out of ammo "click" sound, and then the game returns to the opening Quake 3 screen. Other times, everything will load and I will actually enter the game, but then I see the BACK of an actual colored model, frozen, sometimes out of the boundary (off in space or whatever), I hear the same "click" sound, and I'm out. I'm wondering if this is happening to anyone else. I've reinstalled Q3A, and I was already running the 1.17 patch -- am now also. Got no help from the Quake3World forums. I can count on Anand though. Can anyone help. Ask me anything, I'm here for a lil while.

P.S.

This doesn't happen all of the time. It does this for at least 25% of the games I try to get in. Only has happened in CTF. But CTF is mostly what I play. Look for me...

post your system's specs and perhaps someone can speculate.
sounds like either a cable or video problem.
Are you on cable, running a DDR. Does it play fine in single player
mode?

does it only happen on some servers all the time, or all servers some of the time?

Bump^^^^

Can anyone help please? Another problem too: With ArenaSpy, the maximum players # is sometimes way off. It will say there is room for like 4 more people. I try it, and then "Server Full"

about the server full message you get:
the lists of servers aren't always up to date (real time). you can usually hit the refresh button and see who's playing but even then I've seen them way off.
about the OEM thing: If your using a compaq or hp system it may have bottlenecks that slow it down due to its design. What kind of video card is in it?
What video mode is Q3 in, (open GL, d3d or software rendering).
Is your network card on the motherboard or installed by the cable company? Any hub or router in the circut?
I agree with apache it sounds like a connection problem, I have alot of those lately especially with msnzone, also be aware the host can actually kick you out of the game if he wants..hope this helps.

Apache,
I think he said it goes back to windows desktop, totally out of the game. I had that happen before , think it was something to do with directx.

The system is a gateway Performance 700. nothing is integrated. 2x AGP with MATROX G400 MAX video card. My cable router is currently on USB. I haven't bothered installing the 3Com Ethernet card that came with it.

The thing about the console is that after you one leaves a game or hits ESC during loading to cancel, the console goes back to the original Q3A load messages. You can't see any errors or anything.

you can also use pgup and pgdown to scroll through the console if q3 filled it with other junk afterwards..
