Ok, i checked previous threads, and one or two touched upon how to set up servers (FTP), and i tried those settings and got nowhere. I have a feeling its one little thing i'm missing, or doing wrong. I'm trying to accomplish setting up a public server from behind a Linksys BEFSR41 Router. I understand the basics, and have had this working in the past but i cant figure it out for the life of me now. I have the server computer set to a static IP of 192.168.1.103. the other two are automatically assigned. On the forwarding tab of the router i have PORT RANGE FORWARDING. On this screen i have a column "Customized Applications" and in that space i wrote "Quake3". then i have "Ext.Port". with a _____ to _____. i wrote in 27960 to 27960. then under protocol i checked "TCP" AND "UDP" both. Under IP address i filled in the last space as 103, and finally checked "enable". i applied those settings and started the server, but the server only shows in "local" will not come up in the public list of 2000 some servers. There is also apage called UPnP Forwarding, which i filled in similar settings and tried and still got the same results, and another page called port triggering, which i filled in the same settings and still got the same results, i am completely stumped. all machines are windows XP

any help would be greatly appreciated

thanks!

i will provide any additional info, or even screenies if needed

Have you tried connecting to your Quake3 server from the outside world using the public IP address? It's possible that you have the server and router setup correctly, but didn't do something you needed to make it appear in the list of Quake3 servers. I don't know that much about game servers, so I'm not sure about making it appear in the list.

unfortunatly neither do i, but the sad thing is i HAVE gotten a server to work, i jsut cant for the life of me remember what the proper settings were, i'm convinced i'm missing one small thing

I got unreal to work from a linksys BEFSR41. Showed up on the games server. Tho, cable kinda sucks. Can only have 4 - 6 players anymore and it becomes super slow. But it seems no one really wants to play on it anymore anyway. So, I had it up for couple of weeks with no one playing was hoping for local traffic ... only a few. So much for that.

All I did was in the game you have to change the IP to the master server. Then forward ports on your router to the ip that the game server the INternal IP.

Haven't tried it with Quake 3. But I am have a feeling if you typed in google Quake3 server BEFSR41 maybe get some setup help? Good Luck!

yeah i tried that ericlp, the google search thing, doesnt come back with enough help to get me going, i packed it in the closet and put the leftover ram in my computer, much less stress now, lol

Did you try putting your quake3 box as the DMZ box?

You can always enabled DMZ while you play quake3, then disable it afterwards if a simple port forward doesn't help you.

i never have an issue jsut leaving it on, and yes i did try that with no avail...

thank you for all your suggestions guys, i have packed the computer in the closet tho, i am sick of looking at it, if anyone has any earth shattering ideas tho, PLEASE elt me know i may dig it back out jsut to try =)
