I believe this thread is a joke... But even so, I am not opposed to in-game advertising.. So long as I can disable it (have it in the mains options of the game). In some ways, it can create a more life-like experience when it comes to the first person shooter. However, I would expect games that have it to at least:

1) Improve their quality of the game and release it when it is ready, rather than early bug filled beta packaged as retail.

2) Lower the price

3) Do not make then intrusive... None of this type stuff where you cannot lower the volume of the advertisement. One slight irritation is with comcast and their online video service... You can lower the volume on everything except the comercials... Gotta love how they did that. Lucky for us, we have volume control on the speakers itself.

Anyway...

We laugh now, but in a few short years, all games will have cheesy ads like that. They just have to take baby steps to get people used to the idea. A small step in BF2142, and people say 'Thats not so bad'. Another small step in ETQW, and people say 'Thats not so bad.' Another small step in the next big title and people say thats not so bad. Eventually, you'll have scrolling marquee ads on the top and bottom of your screen, with audio, and billboard style ads that are audio activated whenever the play walks by.

depends on how the ads are. maybe they can keep it tasteful (if such a term can be applied).

the day something like neon green popup happens is the day a game sells 0 copies :p
