Okay the game looks like battlefield 2 but plays like UT2004 with the very quick phase combat. The vehicle feel so light and drive like 100miles an hour. Vehicle combat is so unsatisfying and feels no better or even worser than vehicle combat in UT2004. It does have a cool interface and better map layout for the newbies so they can understand what to do when they enter combat zone. The gun combat is great and feels like Quake 3 but that is a problem since that combat is great for small but not huge maps that quake war is looking to having. I played the game for 10hrs and then realized that game feels like like a console port than a true computer in mind built game. The game tries to take the best aspect of BF series and unreal series but falls short as the balancing of vehicle , player combat and air combat feels too much arcadey for its own good.

As a fanboy of RTCW: Enemy territory who use to get 1200XP + in a single 6 map round... i am very disappointed in the Quake War beta and really hopes that ID would fix the vehicle combat and make the player combat more like original ET and less like Quake 3.

I think the developer need to re-look at ET , BF1942 and UT1999 to try to understand what made these game so good. Also i really wish they had a separate team working on PC version because of some vehicle combat design feels like more consolish.

Now i am back to playing Day of Defeat and BF2 as this beta doesn't interest no more ;(. Also i am think of not buying the game if they don't take any notice of the pc gamers are sayings.

I was also very disappointed, and will probably not be buying the game after all. My main complaint was the vehicles... they just aren't fun to drive and don't keep me interested. And without the vehicles, its just a Quake 3 game. Plus, the fact that it takes so many shots to kill someone doesn't help.

I'm assuming the vehicles will be fixed. At least they should be. Movement needs to be tweaked a little bit. Could use a greater weapon variation. That would make me happy. I really enjoy the flow of the game once human forces enable the EMP on sewer, especially defending the control room.

I wouldn't mind it was a more like BF but its more like BF console clone with Quake 3 combat action.

i'm not sure where you're getting the "Quake 3 combat action" from because this game plays exactly like BF2, not Quake 3.

i'm not sure where you're getting the "Quake 3 combat action" from because this game plays exactly like BF2, not Quake 3.

I have played BF2 since the day its come out spent countless hunreds of hours on and it doesn't come close to gameplay of BF2. Quake Wars tries to look like BF2 stylish graphic but plays more like UT2004.

we must be playing different games because i've played quake 3 and UT2004 and its not even close. what i played is an exact clone of BF2.

we are talking about Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, correct?

we must be playing different games because i've played quake 3 and UT2004 and its not even close. what i played is an exact clone of BF2.

I'm not sure what you're referring to, but they are talking about the actual combat. It plays similar to a quick FPS like UT or Quake, as it should.

what i find the biggest difference between BF and QW is the fact that getting into the action, regardless of spawn point, is very easy. in bf, if you need to take back a flag, the closest spawn is still 5 minutes away from where you need to be, and god forbid you don't have any vehicles handy.

Exactly...it has a lot in common with BF2 with the classes and objectives and such, but the actual combat is more fast paced Q3 style. To a fault IMO - it just should not take like 10 shots to down somebody. Thats always been my biggest peeve with BF2/2142, and ETQW takes it to an even more absurd level.

They need to bring back the Q2/UT style of play where one rocket to the face or four machine gun shots would take someone down. Right now it just feels like everyone is equally gimp, and theres a whole lot of running and dancing around and not a lot of actual killing. At least in BF2 where the weapons were equally weak the players weren't so nimble that you actually could take them down reasonably well.

For instance: the strogg jetpack is a great idea, completely made useless by the fact that you can only drop bombs that do about as much damage as pigeon sh*t.

But other than the overall balance to the game, the main problem is that it really doesnt offer much of anything unique. The core aspect of your interaction with the game, the weapons, are so *painfully* boring that it just ends up being a snoozefest. I don't believe that they cant come up with something a little more unique than a standard assault rifle, shotgun, heavy machine gun, rocket launcher and sniper rifle.

Exactly. BF2 at least feels somewhat tactical (until a bunch planes come buy and raze the ground, killing everything in their wake and their is nothing you can do about it). This game seems like it trying to be tactical, but ends up just being a big fragfest.

Now don't get me wrong, there are times when this game can be really fun, with the right poeple on a server, but in general I have been pretty disappointed.

I was sad to see that the rocket launcher has been turned into a tactical, slow firing POS.. I was hoping for a rocket launcher similar to that from Quake... I guess that would change the entire game though... oh well.

I always seem to accidentally shoot people when they only have a little bit of health left, so one or two bullets kills them :(

One in ~3 hours, which was filed against. Just tonight in 40 minutes I was TKed ~6 times.

I still prefer the ET server I play on; if I don't get into QW this weekend I will probably pass on my key.

I rather like it , I never played the original ET though. It seems to me the scale of the players could be a bit bigger. There is a lot to learn and it will take me much more time to give a good judgment on the game...

You can force the beta client into HQ graphics mode by first:

Add +set com_allowConsole 1 to your shortcut; this will make ~ open the console.

Once you get into the console, type r_megadrawmethod 0
