Mac OS X Systems Administrator:
Responsibilities
Serve as a technical lead on Unix-related Mac OS X projects.
Serve as escalation point for Unix-related Mac OS X issues.
Identify tasks which require automation and automate them.
Resolve support requests and perform infrastructure maintenance:
Troubleshoot hardware and software problems, both workstation and server.
Troubleshoot network and remote access connectivity problems.
Perform general system maintenance and support.
Install, upgrade, and maintain hardware, software, and peripherals.
Produce documentation.
Train end-users as needed.
Recommend and establish policies on system use and services.
Assist other administrators in maintaining standard software configurations.
Assist other IS staff as needed.
Required Qualifications
Four years of related experience.
Intimate knowledge of Unix.
Ability to automate system administration functions using Unix shell scripts, Perl, Python, and/or AppleScript.
Familiarity with remote query tools (such as netOctopus, ssh), remote control (such as Timbuktu Pro, VNC), and software distribution tools (such as Apple Remote Desktop, cfengine, rpm (both installing and creating)).
Familiarity with enterprise backup solutions (such as Retrospect, NetBackup).
Organization and attention to detail.
Experience supporting end users, including all levels of management.
Ability to follow through on support requests in a timely manner, escalating to other members of the team when appropriate.
Ability to prioritize and address multiple tasks and projects in a dynamic work environment.
Ability to work independently and with other members of a team.
Proven oral and written communication skills.
Helpful Qualifications
A computer science degree is very helpful, but not required.
Experience with Mac OS X, FreeBSD, Linux and/or OpenSTEP is very helpful.
Experience with Unix in medium to large enterprises is very helpful.
Experience with the following software and protocols: Samba/CIFS, K-AShare/AFP, NFS, LDAP/NIS/Windows authentication, Mac OS X Server, POP and IMAP clients, Maya, Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Final Cut Pro, Final Draft, Microsoft Office, Meeting Maker, FileMaker, Now Contact, Microsoft Project, Citrix client, or Palm Pilot.
Experience with Windows Shell and Ghost.
Familiarity with encryption and security tools (such as PGP, FileGuard, PCGuardian).
Ability to troubleshoot Mac and PC software problems, hardware problems, and connectivity issues.
Experience navigating and controlling real-time 3D environments such as Quake and Unreal.
