Quake Live -- ads in your browser?

I'm interested in playing Quake Live since I like arena style FPS and am curious about this new business model. I tried installing it on Internet Explorer but it seem like a no-go and I never received an e-mail confirmation. I don't use Internet Explorer, so it I figured that if it installed spyware and adware that it wouldn't be a big deal.

Does Quake Life install adware and/or spyware? If I try to install it for Firefox, will it mess up my Firefox browser?

The ads in Quake Live are in game. You will see billboards inside the maps of the game you are playing. Quake Live doesn't install any spyware on your machine. All it installs is the Quake Live game client.
