I can see paying something like $7.99 for this game. I thought everyone owned a copy of Q3... $19.99? Are they kidding?

If it was $10 I would probably buy it again cause I can't for the life of me find my cd anymore and I have been wanting to play again. I have the Bender model still though lol

KaOTiK,
If you have an existing key even if you don't have the CD, can't you just register that KEY under your steam account and have access to download / play it? I've heard of being able to convert some non-steam games to steam ones that way. Actually I've heard that sometimes it will do that if it detects a certain game on your PC whether you want it to or not (which would suck).

I think you can get it for way less than $20 ... I'm sure I've seen it from Fry's or various online game stores for less.

Do it, pickup Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines as well. Both are excellent FPS / Action RPG hybrids.

Nah, steam only lets you register valve games and a few select other games.

I've been wanting to replay Deus Ex for years now; I've no idea what happened to my original CD. With current hardware, I should get at least five hundred frames per second. :D Should look and play great.

Deux Ex was 4.99 last I looked. VtM:B was 19.99, I really shoulda picked it up at 9.99 when it went on special. Great game, too bad I lost my discs.

If it plays at all. There's a graphics add on to deus ex now that you should look into. Also, updated renderers. I found I needed the updated directx8 (or was it 7?) renderer to get the game to run correctly. (opengl seemed like a lost cause...or was it the other way around?)

iD decides the price, Quake 3 is so old it's not even worth dropping the price. Starcraft could be $5, but it's still 15-20 because they know the only people buying it after this long are the ones that really want it.

There is an updated OpenGL renderer as well. Both of them work great on modern cards.

What I hate most about steam is that most of it's newer games are the exact same price as the retail shelf copy. They should be at least $10 cheaper for the digital download.

Well, maybe they'll drop the price when Quake Live goes.. uhh live, then again, who would want Q3 after Quake Live is released? Maybe a boxed copy for collection but a digital download? Nah.

Agreed. I love Steam and think its a great service, but their pricing does have some flaws.

Some titles they price perfectly, and the regular price slash of a title to 5 or 10 dollars is welcome. But some titles are really old, and shouldn't be more than a couple of bucks. Q3 isn't worth more than 5 dollars, if that, these days. You can download the source code for the game.

HOMMV is another title on Steam that bugs me. Yes, its on Steam, and yes I would love to buy it off Steam, but its priced more than double what it would cost from GoGamer, including shipping. Not worth it.

Just because you can download the source code doesn't mean the game isn't worth anything. And while you might argue that prices should be cheaper on steam by 5 or 10 dollars, most of the time they are if you hop on the right deals, pre-order specials, lower priced weekends, etc. Steam is a lot like Dell, if you watch for deals you almost always get a good price. Sure maybe they should constantly be lower priced, but you don't know all of the contractual agreements that go into this stuff. Maybe a developers publisher wouldn't let them price the game lower than retail or they'd pull it from shelves. That kind of bullshit.

I bought the Id Software packaged deal. The nice thing is having their entire backlog at my finger tips. Even though I already own most of the games.

I'd rather pay $20 for Quake 2 instead, Quake 3 was alright but it's certainly not worth that much today.

Im not arguing games are too expensive on Steam, just that they should not be selling for the same price as retail games. There's none of the traditional infrastructure markup on Steam that's needed to turn a profit.

On Steam, COD4 (wasn't that a 2007 game?) is still 49.99. It's 49.99+tax retail. Is there any reason why a license and collection of bits should be the same price as a physical disk, box and manual that has to be trucked somewhere maybe two or three times?

Seriously, go to the value section of your local Best Buy/Wal-Mart/etc. I've seen it floating around for $10 at several different retail locations.

Steam also wants 20 USD for HOMM V, when Gogamer wants 8 USD. If they cut the price down, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
