Quake III off topic here?

Sorry to post this here... but I'm in Guam so there's not much activity at the time I get on. This forum seems to be the most active .

I can't get Quake III demos to run (trying to see what my fps rate is). I install Q3 from cd and apply the patch...but when I choose either demo1 or 2 it just returns me to the main menu. If I go to console and type /demo demo001 it will load everything up then go back to menu. Any ideas???

There has to be a Quake nut out there somewhere...as for me... I couldn't frag myself out of a paper bag.

Welcome to ID software and their STUPID patching system..

If you patched to version 1.27, demos do not work.. properly.. from the readme:
Known Issues
- Launching demos from the user interface does not work. To play a demo back, go to the console and type "demo demofilename" without the quotes. This is a bug that cropped up when we changed the extension for demos so they include the protocol number so demos show up properly in menus. This will be addressed in a later patch.

I've stopped playing quake3 myself.. Until they get their sh!t together.

Figures... although still doesn't explain why it won't work for me from the console either . It loads all the items then exits back to the menu. Oh well. I'll find some other means of benchmarking OpenGL.

There would also be a problem with protocol versions, Im sure if you dug deep into quake3 forums theres prolly a fix.. Just change a number or two with a command..

Perhaps someone here would know.. I havent really come accross many hardcore quakers here..

I have instructions there. there is a spelling mistake that i am too lazy to correct on the first line it saids 1.25, suppose to be 1.17

so daz, you quit playing quake 3 just because you can't play the timedemos? that's seems pretty redundant. since when did you pay 40 dollars for a game just to watch timedemos. the rest of the game is fine, with great mods such as rocket arena.
