Quake I, Hexen II and Unreal Gold in OpenGL...

I'm having some issues running the original Quake, Unreal and Hexen II in OpenGL on my Visiontek geForce2 MX400. When I try to run them in normal Windows mode they work okay but doesn't have the OpenGL quality that I want. So if I try GLQuake or GLHexen I'll get an error saying it can't find glide2x.dll reinstall to fix this problem. I previously had a Voodoo5 5500 that never gave me these problems since OpenGL was so awesome on it. I have the latest drivers installed for XP but I just am not sure how to fix this one.

In the GLQuake folder delete any DLL files you have there. In fact, delete everything except for the executable (and uninstaller if it's there) and the ID folder because that's all you need. And delete the config.cfg file in the ID folder in case the game is applying your old detected settings to the new video card.

And did you correctly remove all traces of your Voodoo5 and its drivers?

:D YES! Thank you it worked. I had those stupid glide files inside the Quake folder, I didn't think they were supposed to be there. 1 down 2 to go. I haven't tried HeXen II yet but I'll get around to it. Thanks a lot man, really appreciated.:)

No luck with Unreal though. It doesn't seem to support my geForce 2. Software Render looks like crap and runs at about 17 fps. Direct 3D is the same. The only other option is 3dfx Glide which is useless since I got rid of my Voodoo. I need an expert on Unreal. I want to run OpenGL with Unreal using my geForce 2, what do I do? HeXen II and Quake I are back on track despite a few resolution problems I don't know how to solve. Anyone know how to change the resolutions for HeXen II and Quake I via console? I have the commands but they don't seem to work like "vid_describemode(s)". Help please.

OpenGL in Unreal(not UT though) is utter crap. You'll have to use DirectX, just make sure you have the final update(2.26f I believe) for Unreal. Your other option would be to get a Glide wrapper, but I don't know if there is one for a Geforce2 or where you can find one. Hopefully someone else will show up with some info, your Geforce2 should be getting better than <20 fps in Unreal. Hell, my bro had a TNT/k6-2 400 combo that got 25fps in Unreal.

I run OpenGL on a geforce 2 GTS and UT and it ROCKS.
I found an openGL DLL on Unreal Tournament Technology page. It also has an edit for the .ini file so it works write.

OpenGL Renderer

Middle of page and then lower is the .ini edit

Well so do I but we're not talking Unreal Tournament, we're talking Unreal Gold, the original Unreal. It doesn't seem to support OpenGL and that really blows.:disgust:

The original Unreal loved Glide. Direct 3D support was added and/or refined later on. OpenGL always worked but was somewhat picky about the hardware. OpenGL ran great on my TNT2Ultra back in the day.

Somewhere along the line, Unreal-OpenGL stopped working. All I've updated has been the NVidia drivers so I assume that's the culprit.

Unreal Gold should run if you patch up to the latest version and then use Direct3D mode. I would head down that path and find out why your frame rate is so low. You may have some 3dfx drivers still lingering on your system. A clean install of Windows is always beneficial when changing major hardware components.
