Quake and ZoneAlarm

I'm having a lot of trouble getting Quake through ZoneAlarm. Quake starts and gets halted by ZA. I have to reboot and if I'm lucky, Quake will be in the program list and I can approve it. Haven't been lucky lately though. How do I start Quake in a small dos window so I can see whats going on?
