I've had Quake 4 installed since it came out, but I've been playing Far Cry and neglected Quake 4.

Boy was that a mistake. I thought this game was gonna suck, but damn...

I think it's a really good game. I'm at the aqueducts and I think it's a great game so far. I especially like the incorporatioin of squads and such. Graphics are nice, too much like Doom3, bur still beautiful. The powerful flashlight is nice too, could have used that in Doom 3...

Anyways, those of you who don't wanna take a chance on Q4, I highly suggest you change your mind.

I love to play single player games, and so far I'm impressed by Q4

I played FEAR just before it and was kind of let down. Seemed like the enemies were just fodder. Firefights in FEAR had a bit of strategy at least. Ducking, grenades, peaking, etc.

I dunno what it is exactly it just feels different. Graphics are great, but the combat just doesn't seem as up to par as in FEAR :(

ok, I agree. The firefights arent as good as in FEAR, I guess the Strogg aren't very smart ;)

IS there a way in-game to get the FPS? Or do I just have to use FRAPS? I'm running 1280x1024 high settings 2xAA/16xAF. It feels pretty smooth, but I need to bump to 4xAA cause the jaggies are bad.

Farcry Instict pawns Farcry which pawns FEAR !

Everyone keeps talking about how good the AI in Fear is but for some reason I don't see it. I am playing it on hard aswell. Maybe I ain't giving them enough time to react as they don't seem any smarter than any other FPS'er. But I do have to say when they toss a grenade or something its on target and I usually get hit by it and sometimes killed.

I beat Quake 4 thursday evening i think. Last few levels of the game were fuggin hard as ******. Seemed like it would never end and i would never stop dying. I finally got through it though and was very happy with the outcome. Now i'm playing Call of Duty 2, and it kicks Quake 4's ass in every way except lighting (everything is outside lol).

****SPOILER ALERT!!!!****

I thought the last few levels of Quake 4 was quite easy. The hardest battle seemed to be the one where you get stuck in the room and it spawns 3 of those flamerthrower guys then 4 of those floating missle guys and then the two mini-spider tank things and even that was pretty easy after you play it once or twice. The last boss was waaay too easy. The Makron was by far the easiest boss for me. The first form died in about 10 seconds and the second form barely touched me.

WTH?? What difficulty level were you playing on? I got frustrated as hell in that room you're talking about (where there's 3 enforcers, then 3 of those floating guys, then like 2 of the spider things). I played that part like 20-30 times before i got passed it, i always died because of some BS (those damn missles the floating dudes shoot at you suck ass). I agree that the final boss was pretty damn easy though (gotta love the dark matter gun). I got frustrated after the brain looking thing came out though, cuz i didn't know what to do, then when i figured it out, i was like you gotta be shittin me lol. That part was easy. Overall it was a fun game. When you get stroggified though, that made me cringe a little lol.

The AI in FEAR wasn't anything special, but it did do a few specific things: It would lie in wait in specific rooms until you entered them. This made for ambushes. They'd almost always try and backtrack around you similar to enemies in Farcry. But once they were in range, their battle tactics were pretty stale, mainly because there was very little variation between every enemy.

And yea Quake4 was difficult, especially if you played on one of the harder difficulties. That, for me, was very enjoyable. Some people get angry when they die and keep throwing themselves at an encounter without thinking until they get fed up. But I enjoy the encounters that kill me and make me think about how I screwed up or how the PC got the best of me.
