Ok, i have spent over three hours working on this issue, but can't get it working. I reinstalled windows XP yesterday, and started loading up my games. Q4 is the only one giving me problems. I loaded the latest nvidia drivers, and directx9c. The motherboard drivers are all loaded from the cd that came with my lanparty Ultra D(modded to ultra D).

When I finish installing, it would play. So I then run the first patch. 1.2. It runs. Then I install the 1.3 patch. It runs Then I try a few other games, come back and q4 won't launch anymore. I double click the exe and it pops up Q4 screen, then goes black, and then instead of being in the game, it kicks me back out to windows desktop, with no error of any kind reported.

Uninstall. Reinstall. now, I can't get in the game before the patches, or after.
just closes out on me after black screen.

I tried copying the game directory from another computer, it does the same exact thing. Anyone seen this before or know if there's a log file somewhere i can look at?

In this case I would try a driver from the Nvidia Driver Achives over at the Nvidia site, maybe the 91.31 driver. Sometimes the latest and greatest driver is not for you, or your not so new games. No flames please, I have personaly found this to be true. What do you have to lose at this point ? Always try the least time consuming fixes first, unless of course you already have an insight on what the problem is, heat issues..bad connectors ect. Good luck.

You read the install p[rocedures I am assuming.

not sure about Quake 3, but some games require pre-processing of sorts. I doubt it ... but jsut make sure.

After the game stops working have you tried rebooting your system?

Got any firewalls going? Mine always froze if it was a blocked application.

just the windows built in firewall.. which shouldn't block the local game.. but i'll try disabling it for Sh!ts and Giggles..

thanks.
