quake 4 is awesome :o

I started playing last tuesday of this week and finished it today. All I can say is wow :Q w/ all the effects, design and also the funny characters that came with it. There was a DOOM3 feel to it, but it is totally different from I what I read from the other guys. I give big two thumbsup on this game and a good 30 bucks well spent.

time for the multiplayer :evil:

SP was great, very well done, makes you feel like your role it part of something. I still hop on MP occasionally just to frag a few peeps, but its very competitive, expecially on the tourney servers.

I've got a P4 3ghz proc, 2 gigs of ram and a 9800 pro vid card. This setup played Doom 3 fine at 1280 x 960. Any idea how Quake 4 will play on my rig?

I liked it a lot myself, much more so than Doom 3. I have always wondered why we haven't heard anything about a expansion pack for it.

For me, Quake 4 ran about the same as Doom 3 did at the same resolution and graphic quality (I had to run Doom at 800 x 600).

I can't find any really good servers. Seems like there's usually one or two with people. Am I doing something wrong?

Quake 4 was solid but I enjoyed Doom 3 more.

Both games are underrated IMO.

ET:QW is a full standalone game that's multiplayer only. Like Battlefield it'll be fairly large scale and have vehicles, though gameplay (objectives, player classes, teamplay etc) will be much more like Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory). To oversimplify, the basic premis is that gameplay wise it's Enemy Territory 2, while it's setting (or "universe", to use the modern buzzword for it) is as a Quake 2 prequel.

Doom3 had better story presentation and it was made to go slow instead of hectic. I thought it was awsome. Quake 4 was made to be the opposite, but unfortunately, the opposite with the story presentation as well. I thought quake4 sucked due to lack of motivation where something like "the princess is in another castle" was used all through the last half of the game. Gameplay was excellent though.

Single player games this short are nothing more than game-engine demos. If I ever pick up either of these, D3 or Q4, it wont be until they're in the discount bin for less than $10 USD. I expect I wont have long to wait.

Was a good game for single player but they had alot of room for depth, story was too basic imo, Doom3 was a little more well crafted with the lines and depth of the story. But I enjoyed quake4 overall, although the ending was a little odd. The multiplayer is great, but this is coming from a quake 3 fan, I love the new weapons and the original quake 3 feel to the game, really fun.

As for servers, gamespy and All seeing eye dont scan all the servers out there, I would recommend using Q-tracker, a really neat program for scanning servers for games from www.qtracker.com

I live on the west side so there are some decent west servers active everyday. Some popular servers for the latest 1.20 version are

Clan FB Death Match (usually packed) 16 player server
Xfire Arena CTF (always has players) 18 player server
Xfire Death Match
Nuclear Fallout Seattle Death Match

Personally I don't play on any eastern servers since I ping in the 100s but these are sanfransico/seattle servers and are mostly the popular ones for q4.

I just finished Quake 4 (took me 2 days). Aside from the SP being a bit short, it was pretty awesome. Much better than I thought it would be. On The Nexus, I thought you had to kill a certain number of Strogg before the shields would go done. Well, that was a frustrating 45 minutes... 😛

Anyways, I would give this 7.5/10, and I have to agree with 0roo0roo's comment. 🙂

The graphics were decent though a bit claustrophobic, but I hated the gameplay. It just felt so painfully generic. And even Quake2 wasn't THAT repetative. I could barely finish the game.
