Quake 4 & HL 2 | Can my rig handle these games?

So iD says Quake 4 system requirements are:

  • Intel Pentium 4 2.0 GHz or AMD Athlon XP 2000+ CPU
  • 512MB of RAM
  • 100% DirectX 9.0c compatible 16-bit sound card with latest drivers
  • # 100% DirectX 9.0c compatible 64MB hardware accelerated video card and the latest drivers

And I am presently running:

  • AMD Sempron 2400+ 1.6GHz
  • 1GB of PC2700 RAM
  • Creative SB Audigy 2 ZS
  • ATI Radeon 9800 Pro

Is this gonna cut the mustard or am I gonna be playing at 640x480 at 10FPS?

HL2 I'd guess 1024x768 mid details.

Quake 4 I'm not experienced with but my bro plays it on a similar rig at 800x600 or a little higher.

Half-Life 2 will run good, I have basically the same specs except my processor is 1.83 GHz. I run HL2 at 1024x768 with all details on high (no AA/AF) with 30+ fps.

Quake 4 you'll be able to run 800x600 with mid, maybe high, details with around 30+ fps.

I have 2400+, 1 gig 2100 and 9800p and run hl2 highest settings wonderfully. Dont know bout quake but hl2 runs a lot better than doom3 which is same engine as quake i guess.

Yeah HL2 definitely runs smoother and looks better than Doom 3/Quake 4. Even at the settings I described above, Quake 4 lags kinda bad in some areas though it's still playable.

I'm sure HL2 will run fine and you should be able to up the details a bit.

Quake 4 will run fine i'm guessing, but I wouldn't count on high details. I'm guessing maybe 800x600 or 1024x768 at mid details. I'm not really sure because i haven't played the game tho, but that's my guess (for what it's worth)
