Who cares about the benches? Quake 4 turned out to be more of a disappointment than Doom 3.

How do you know... have you even played it yet?

Quake 3 didn't get the best reviews either, but maybe you weren't ever into that game like the rest of us.

Says who, I hadn't read one thing or another about the quality of gameplay or story by anybody. Also Raven Soft did Quake 4 no Id so thats a little different on its own. If your going to bash something that hasn't been alive for more then a couple hours at least show something to back it up.

Some reviews are out. I loved Quake 3, which is why I was looking forward to this game longer than Doom 3.

"Quake 3 didn't get the best reviews either, but maybe you weren't ever into that game like the rest of us."

Quake 3 had some of the BEST reviews of any game, I don't know what you are talking about.


The reviews I have read, say that Quake 4 is just a run and gun shooter with good graphics and lack luster multiplayer.

Ok, here are reviews on Q3... some of the best I guess, others not so great:

...as you can see, the reviews range from 60 to 93% and it even got a C+ from game revolution...lol. I copied this from a post at Quake3world.com:)

Doom3:......8.9
HL2:...........9.7
Quake4:....8.2
FEAR:........9.2

I am a bit surprised that Quake4 would get rated lower then Doom3. Well I am glad BB wasn't selling Q4 yet, because i just picked up F.E.A.R a couple minutes ago, I might sit on this and wait a year for Q4 to get $29.

Well, from individual sources, they are saying Q4 is at least more fun than Doom 3 ever was.

Well, problem is, how much more fun is it? I particularly disliked Doom 3 for its severely boring, uninnovative gameplay. That, and it didn't scare me at all. Course, bunch of other pansies get scared of it.

I'm enjoying Quake4.

Let's just say its very Halo-inspired.

Very much an "Action-FPS"...

Also, they tried to keep as much Quake2 references as possible, which is nice.

Looks better than FEAR as far as framerates, but it looks like my 6800GT is only going to be playable to about 1280x1024...maybe I could swing 16x12 (actually 16x10 in my case) without AA, but it would be pushing it. Well, I guess one way of looking at it is that it looks like I'd be getting about the same framerates at 16x12 in Q4 as I would in 12x9 in FEAR...not too bad I guess.

Just a quick thing about D3. I can't help but think it was merely a "Look what we can do with our shiney engine" than a game that was supposed to enthrall and entwine the player.

Bite your tongue. Quake 4 single player crushes Doom3.

None of these games are going to beat games like UT2004 or Q2 in multiplayer. They are too system demanding. For fun online play you need great pings and FPS of 80 or better.

Not going to happen on these new games for awhile. Most people do not have the system cahoonies to play these games at that speed.

Well that and the fact that your never going to reach 80fps in Q4 :D
