Sorry - I stand corrected. The source code for quake 3: arena was released. A version called "OpenArena" was created based on the source and released under GPL, but I've read it's pretty poopy.

Quake Live is the browser based variant of Quake 3.

Quake Live = Quake 3 Arena but is 100% free, has more players, and has the best net code of any online fps ever made. No reason to play Q3A anymore.

this may be true. however i wish they would nerf the freaking shotgun. i'm getting blasted half way across the screen and getting fragged w/ 80 health left
