Quake 3 Point Release 1.25 Is Crap

I just spent the whole afternoon downloading the 1.25 point release on my 56K modem. What a waste of time that was! Is this supposed to be a beta test or something? Some of the problems I have had:

The timedemos are completely disabled so I cannot get an average fps score.

I seem to get "snow" on a lot of the walls, textures and floor (Voodoo 3).

The bots are now playing in a completely different way than they used to. The AI has completely changed. This is really bad because the entire gameplay has changed. Also the bots seem to be the same difficulty on nightmare and hardcore.

There are lot of new sounds that seem to have been added in at innappropriate times.

And the worst part: none of the bugs I reported have been fixed. I am talking about Bones' AI and the dropped sounds when certain bots win.

I must say I am very disappointed with Carmack & CO after this release. I only hope they put everything back to how it was otherwise I will be staying at 1.17 permanently.

Shhhhhhhh.. yeah it is a beta. I could've told you not to download it, man. I reinstalled 117 and deleted the pak4.pak and got my Q3 (and RA3) back.

Man, this "patch" really sucks. The bots are doing insane movements, not realistic anymore, the sound is garbled, and the sound of the announcer just plain stincks !

Since I have a very low end machine, I immediately feel when there are slowdowns, and believe me, this patch slowed things down considerably.

After the crappy patch for HL, now this ? I don't like it

Another thing it breaks compatibility with ALL Q3A mods such as Rocket Arena
ect. I'd wait till they issues fixes and give the source code to mod authors or else it's a problem to upgrade.

Saw somewhere that this was left out of the documentation upgrade.
So be carefull and wait !

You think all that sucks, let me tell ya' what happened to me...I had 12 mods installed, over 40 extra maps, etc...fired it up after installing 1.25 and guess what? When I enter a game, if it even lets me in in the first place, NONE of the items are present. No health, no weapons, no nothing. Try to go through a teleporter, and your back at the main menu. AND, I didn't know I could just remove the pak file, so I deleted and reinstalled the whole damn game over. Lost all my mods, maps, configs...everything (yeah, I know, I shoulda backed them up, but I just wanted the damn game back and wasn't thinking rationally).

I really hope they don't leave the new bot AI in. Playing against them is like a totally new game. Their movement is really weird and they seem to like moving around in loops/circles.

The update is very bizarre. Didn't ID test it at all or something?

I don't get the connection box that indicates my ping, damn I need that bad! This does suck.

To remove the update goto hte baseq3 directory in your q3 directory, there will be a file called pak4.pak, delete this file and reinstall 1.17

I love it when games come out with a patch that really messes up the way things were. They might fix ONE TINY problem and introduce about 20 large ones.

I would uninstall the whole thing, reinstall the game off the CD and re-apply the 1.17 patch. That's what I did and it works fine.

Did they say anything about the network code being incompatible with 1.17? If they didn't change anything it shouldn't matter whether you run 1.17 or 1.25.

Actually the web page has just been updated and I have found out that 1.25 is indeed a beta release. They forgot to mention it before.

Just in case anybody cares the 1.25 beta has been updated with some bug fixes. I don't think the timedemos have been fixed though. I am certainly not downloading that 18 MB file on my 56K modem until it's finished.
