Quake 3 freezes in Win2k. Help!

Here's the pertinent system info:
Windows 2000
AMD KG-7 RAID
Athlon XP 1900+
GeForce Ti4200; 40.72 Detonator drivers

The problem: Within five minutes of starting a game, the game stops responding. I have to Alt-Enter, then CTRL-ALT-DEL/End Task in order to get out of it and back to the desktop. After doing that, everything on my desktop has a white-ish hue. The only way to get rid of this hue is to load up Quake and close out of it correctly.

Has anyone seen this before? Any suggestions on things to try? Is there a way to enable logging in Q3A, so I might be able to see what's causing the lock up?

THanks in advance!
