Link to $1.99 Q3A

I already have this game.. so I didn't buy it..
I think it's cheap even though it's kinda old..
If you have not bought this game before, it's a "must have" game.. to benchmark for me!!

1 more thing.. I think you can get this cheaper or almost for free by getting it from staples by PM'ing it to microcenter..

When I try to buy online, I only get the Linux version, but I can see on the ad, it says "for Windows and Linux." So anybody go to their local B&M yet that can confirm they even have it?

This is a pretty good deal for the linux version. It comes in a metal tin, which looks positivly bad ass. You can get it to work on windows by taking the linux CD, copying the contents of the baseq3 folder over to your HDD (ie: make a directory called c:\quake 3 and copy the baseq3 folder into it), then downloading and running the latest q3a point release.

Quake's crazy fun on a LAN, at this price, it's worth it for the spare CD Key.

What a great deal for $2! You know things are out of whack when Daikatana is $4.99 and Q3A is $1.99!!! 😀

what is the difference between Q3 area and Q3 Team arena ?

quake 3 arena is the original q3a. quake 3 team arena is the "improved" game that came out almost a year later if i remember correctly. team arena is almost exclusively mutiplayer (either with bots or online) and has many different kinds of team games built in. that's all i can remember... i retired from quake a few years ago... 😀

Technically this may be illegal, but if you have Q3A windows edition you could just copy that CD and use the CDKEY from this $1.99 box. Sounds like it may be bending the rules, you make the call.

YOu can view a close up of the ad (where the Q3A is) and print it up. That is what I am gonna do to PM it to Staples or someplace.

Very hot deal, I got this game the night it came out in its special 'silver' or metal or whatever edition...cost me $50.00 🙂

I just happened to stop by my local dollar store today to get some graduation cards, and happened to find this, $1 a piece. Nice tin box, and big yellow sticker showing how to get it to work with Windows. Can't beat it for $1

you dont even need a valid cdkey to play online anymore.
They stopped checking a long time ago. They made their profit margins.
🙂

Microcenter basically doesn't have coupons or extra discounts. (Ocassionally they might, but that is like once a year, not like staples, etc.)

At my Microcenter you can't buy a 'windows' version. Only the Linux version, which has a sticker stating how to get it to run in windows. So my conclusion would be that they don't have the true windows version at all, just the linux (transferable to windows) version.
