quake 3 and UT updates

how is the Unreal Tournament Patch v436 and Quake III 1.27g Update? do they fix or introduce any annoyances and is the game faster? basically, should I install them?

From my experience, the UT4.36 patch fixes a lockup when changing maps that 4.32 had. After finishing a map in multiplayer, the new map wouldn't load up for several minutes. The new patch fixes that.

at the moment its better to stay with version 1.17 for quake3, for the simple reason that most of the servers are still using it. only problem i have noticed with 1.27g is that demo playback doesn't work from the menu anymore, it says this will be fixed in the next update.

in v1.17, did it change some things in gameplay? for example, 3 things changed (and all were very annoying: 1) the game didn't fit the whole screen - there would be a black background the actual 1st person shooting window would be smaller, leaving about an inch of margin on each side - tried changing the resolution but it didn't work. 2) when I tried playing capture the flag, it wouldn't let me get in on the fun right away. I would have to hit escape -> join Team -> Join Red/blue 3) game became even choppier on a Voodoo3 3000. at the same time I installed the patch, I also installed Wicked3D - so I don't know which to blame for those annoyances. can anyone shed some light on this?

also, before all of this happen, one day my sound started sucking really bad. whenever there's a loud explosion, the sound started cracking and become all static-y and stuff - happened to anyone else? then suddenly, it happened to Thief Gold too. btw, it's a SB Live MP3+.
