Quake 3 and Linksys

I am trying to play Q3 between my two machines on a Linksys router but with no luck. When I specify the address of the server in the Multiplayer screen, it gets to the connection screen and says "Server uses protocol version 45" and just sits there waiting for connection. Any ideas on how to fix this? Do need to port forward even though both are behind the NAT?

In Q3A multiplayer screen top line is 'servers:'. Choose 'local' there
and it will find your other PC (if its running as server).

Do you have the same Q3A patches installed on both PCs ?
Its not like one is 1.17 and another is 1.25 ?

Also I dont think you should specify IP, just click 'refresh'.
