The imminent release of Quake 4 made me remember how much fun Quake 2 was. The only question is, can you run it reliably/smoothly in Windows XP?

From the id website:
A 100% Windows 95/98/ME/NT 4.0/2000-compatible computer system (including compatible 32-bit drivers for CD-ROM drive , video card, sound card and input devices).

Am I correct in assuming since it will run in 2000 it will run in XP?

(Note, my system meets the 90mhz Pentium cpu & 24mb ram requirements. :))

Don't think so. As a matter of fact I don't think you can even download quake 1 for free yet.

Works fine in XP - I play it all the time.

Quake 2 source code has been released for, but it obviously doesn't include all the content (textures, maps, sounds, etc.)

Almost perfect with the Original CD. No Patches.
But the CD music doesnt always work correctly. Sometimes I have to go outside and use Windows Media Player.

Try this in console:
s_primary 0
snd_restart

or s_primary 1 if 0 doesn't work. I can't remember which one you need to use.

:D

Which was it, s_primary 0? Also you may have to modify your config.cfg (use Wordpad) if Quake 2 doesn't save it. But you don't need to put snd_restart in config.cfg. Just search for the variable and replace that 1 with a 0 or whichever.

There's a few more secrets of q2 too:

Seen this? q2advance: http://www.q2players.org/show_news.php?id=247

Makes your q2 look like...damn good graphics-wise. Also if you think XP makes your mouse feel weird in q2 there's a command called m_xp in that q2advance I believe.
