SQ2500

Quad II will take up two PCI Space (not 2 PCI bus though)
and SQ2500 has a revised chip which is a tadbit better.

Of the two the SQ2500, same reasons andylawcc gave.

But you know buying an Aureal card right now probably isn't the worlds smartest move...they have no Win2k support, and it's not likely to get any driver updates now that creative owns Aureal. And A3D probably isn't going to live on, we'll be stuck with EAX from now on.

You'd probably be better off to get an SBLive! X-Gamer 5.1 or something like that...
I love the SQ2500 as well...but without support it's not much use...

However, if you've already considered all that and want the Vortex2 anyhow, get the SQ2500 one .

Maybe I could trade them both for a Xgamer or MP3+ think it would be worth the trade? What would you ppl do?

hahaha!

btw: what kind of trade is that? You will get a Retail

anyhow: Xgamer and MP3 are the same Board, just different in software.
Xgame has 3 games, MP3 has mp3 software.

The new X-Gamer 5.1 comes with Unreal Tourny and Deus Ex and 1 or 2 others...I don't much care for software bundles usually, but that's a pretty good one.

In my opinion the Aureal SuperQuad2500 is the best soundcard that has been made so far. Unfortuantely without driver support it's not going to be much good in the future...personnally I'd hang on to it for a while if you already have one, try and wait out a "new" soundcard from creative.

The SBLive! Value, regular, X-Gmaer, MP3+, Platinum, X-Gamer 5.1, MP3+ 5.1 and Platinum 5.1 all use the exact same audio chip (as do any non north american versions I've missed) there are 4 or more revisions of the board, but they all have the same chip, just different connectors, bundles, and little extras like that...

Hopefully they will actually come one with a new soundcard next year as they seem to be on a 1 year cycle...hopefully next year won't be a revision of the Emu10k1...
(98 was the release of the SBlive! and value, 99 was the X-gamer,mp3+,platinum, and now the 5.1 series)

Stay away from Quadzilla. It differs from the reference design, and cant use reference drivers. Get the SQ2500.

If youre getting a new card, get a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz. They are the best card on the market, in my opinion. Live takes a little less processing power, but the Santa Cruz puts out dominating quality and also has awesome features such as a port in the back that you can software select what it does! Also, the Santa Cruz will not have a big problem in real life changing from tasks like the SB LIVE does. Changing from UT to MP3 decoding will not be as much of a problem.

I got an SQ2500 last week from AxionTech for $36 shipped. Haven't been able to use the optical cable (found out my Sony cable doesn't have a plug to fit 1/8") but the sound quality has been excellent. The A3D demos are very cool, methinks it sounds better than my roommate's SB Live's EAX.

Get the santa cruz, it does a3d.. and your two cards are basically obsolete now that aureal is gone:( Don't bother with the live!, its old, i don't know how much longer they can stretch that product line out.

keep the SQ2500.. chances are, if there is someone out there who decides to program for Vortex 2 cards, the SQ2500 will have the best support (becuase it's the reference). it's also got Digital out onboard, mic in, 4 channel out, Line in, and the slightly better Vortex 2 chip then the rest of the Vortex 2 based cards.
