Quadro FX over 8800GT?

Hi guys!

I have an 8800GT right now and i was wondering if i should spend some extra money in order to buy a Quadro.

Mostly i work in 3D Studio Max 2008 and Maya 2008 and some other CAD software. I managed to get very high poly (1.2 mil) and still have 25-30fps with my 8800GT. If i get to 2 mil it goes way down to 10-12fps.

Question is: Getting a Quadro (one of the cheaper ones, FX1-series like 1500) will get me any fps extra? Frankly i'm not ready to spend an extra 400-600$ on just 5fps. I prefer spending it on another 8800GT and get a SLi setup 😀

P.S. I know almost everything there is to know about Quadro's but i've never had the chance to actually test one.

i've had ATI FireGL, ATI gaming cards, and nVidia gaming cards (for CAD & 3D max)

the only variety i haven't used is the Quadro.

on one card (ATI X850XT), it was comparable to the $1500+ FireGL.

on another card (ATI X800XT), i had a problem installing drivers and gave up
after a half hour.

i think that is the kind of hassle you are theoretically spared from if you buy
the Quadro or the FireGL.
