3.0 ghz will easily be achieved but I highly recommend ddr2 800 memory as that could be your limiting factor.

3.0ghz is only 9x333mhz, you only need DDR2-667 for that. He'll be fine with what he has if that's all he wants.

Running the Q6600 at 3.0 GHz means the DDR2 667 RAM will be running in 1:1 ratio which is the best situation.

As with the OP I?m getting ready to jump on the Q6600 @ 3GHz bandwagon, are there any disadvantage/advantages to using DDR2 800 over DDR2 667? I?d use the 9x333 multiplier so if it goes faster or not doesn?t matter to me.

If someone has RAM and Mobo they recommend for this I'd be happy to know.

Any of the cheaper "good brand" P35 motherboards will do 333fsb on a quad.

No reason to shell out $200.

As for DDR667 vs DDR800, its not really a big deal if you have 667 now, and it will be in 1:1 at 333fsb anyway.

DDR800 is slightly faster, but not by any discernable amount in real applications and games.

thanks ya'll

I said goodbye to my monster rig and just got a laptop, frankly I can't get XP to install on a cheap Acer laptop which I'm just about to give up on, Vista looks great, but is a total different story when it comes to the software you really need to be running.

anyway, so 2.4 quad for me. reason why I'm hittin' up DDR667 XMS is 'cuz zipzoomfly.com still has the 2GB (2x1GB) kit for about 70 bucks.

someone please give me a newegg link to a mobo that does over 3GHz without breakin' the bank for a hyped up Asus deluxe mobo.

I'm gettin' a clear Acrylic case, so if you know a fan that isn't loud and 'ugly,' but cools quite as heck, let me at it.

I used Corsair 2x1GB DDR2 533 and it got me 3.2GHz with my original B3. Now with my G0, I'm using OCZ 2x1GB DDR2 800 and am getting 3.6GHz
