I've done some google searches for quad-socket mobo info...am specifically interested in knowing what my options are (or will be down the road) for quad-socket quad-core system builds.
I gathered that quad-1207 exists...but can only be populated with dual-core ATM...and nothing I have read thus far is willing to say anything affirmative about AMD's Barcelona being drop-in functional on existing quad-1207 boards (HT2 vs HT3 thing I presume).
So for AMD when will the real McCoy for quad-core quad-socket (HT3 goodies and all) show up? Will this be an 2H'07 or 1H'08 roadmap item?
Likewise for Intel...can't find anything that does quad-socket on same mobo for the Core Duo architecture...everything is 2 socket, even in the future with Skulltrail (sp?).
Is this correct? Or did I miss some info here on Intel's expected product roadmap. Am not interested in quad-socket P4-based boards.
This is not about price, or price/performance, or about watt/performance, etc. Just trying educate myself on the quad-socket quad-core landscape offerings now and for the next 12 months or so.
Links (for my further reading up) will be double-appreciated!
