Hi All

Bit of a newbie question here

My MB supports a 1333 Mhz bus, yar

I want to replace my current core 2 with the following ;

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450 LGA775 'Yorkfield' 2.66GHz 12MB-cache (1333FSB) Processor - OEM

Question : I wish to overclock this to 3ghz, will my MB allow it, since it will raise the 1333SB?

Many thanks guys

According to Here, it does support 45nm CPUs. You'll probably just need to update the BIOS.

Regarding whether you can overclock it past 1333MHz FSB, I'm not quite sure. First thing I would do is go to BIOS and see if it lists FSB above 333MHz.

Yes, flash the latest bios 1704, I beleive and it overclocks like a champ. I put an X3350 (same as Q9450) in my P5B-E and it overclocked from 2.66 to 3.7ghz with a true 120. I could go higher if I did the pencil vdroop mod, may try it this weekend as the vdroop is horrible on this board

Is there anyone of this board who knows if I can OC this chip on my current MB?

If I can't I may just wait and do my 2 year cycle of buying a whole new machine.

I believe GuitarDaddy has answered that for you.

For the same price I can get a Intel Quad Core Xeon X3350 'Yorkfield' 2.66GHz 12MB-cache (1333FSB) Processor - OEM

no difference ?

I have one of each. The only difference that I have seen is the x3350 has a vid of 1.20 and the q9450 has a vid of 1.225.

Don't use coretemp to display vid, use realtemp. core temp is about .11v too low on both of my chips.
