I just installed Kalyway 10.5.2 on a GA-P35 Ds3L / Q6600 / 4gb RAM system; all's well except that the Q6600 is detected as a single core CPU. I had set up Kalyway on my other GA-P35 Ds3L just a couple weeks ago, pretty much identical machine yet it's Q6600 is showing correctly as 4 core. FWIW both are GO step Q6600's OC'd 2.91ghz. I don't recall the Options I chose for the setup, should I re-enter the setup via the kalyway disc and select options I may have overlooked, or can I fix this within the present install?

I didn't select any boot options at all, either on this latest GA-P35 Ds3L rig or when installing Kalyway on the first GA-P35 Ds3L machine. Both machines are identical in every way(mobo/RAM/vid etc) hardware-wise, and BIOS settings are all the same:
Limit CPUID=disabled
No-execute=disabled
C1E=disabled
TM2=disabled
EIST=disabled
ACPI=SI
PME=Enabled
HPET=32 bit

Used same Kalyway disc as well. I did try cpus=1 but there was no effect...

As others have said, you may need a BIOS upgrade. I'm curious why you are using Kalyway though. Talk about old news.

Someone asked me the same thing on macrumors; I first tried iatkos, ideneb then out of desperation/out of options, I tried Kalyway even tho' I knew it was relatively old, but it did do the job. But yea, I was thinking the same, that the BIOS may need to be updated. On the OSX86 Wiki the F8 is mentioned in the HCL; other places mention F7 as O.K. but perhaps the first order of business would be to bring the BIOS current on this rig, and a GA P35-DS3R machine I'm building. Will post back with results. ;)

Edit: I do have a Retail 10.5.4 disc I'd like to use, just haven't been successful. After switching to the Retail disc, it just gives and EBIOS error which I've read that is an issue with reading the disc. I've already bought two new DVD drives for these builds, but get same result. I've ordered some DVD DL+R discs to try getting a better burn of the Retail disc. Too bad I couldn't boot in TDM and install from my Macbook... ;-)

If you have problems with a retail disc, you might want to try iPC. I've had good luck with that, and I know TheStu got that running just great using your motherboard. It's also a lot more recent than Kalyway 10.5.2.

Well, I flashed the BIOS to the latest(F9) and just finished downloading iPC to a Linux rig, so I'll be burning it to disc shortly and see how it goes. ;)

Update:

Great news- finally some success with the Kalyway build: got an excellent link toleopardsoup which gave the correct BIOS settings for the GA-Pxx DS3x series boards; I couldn't have been much further off, changed about 3/4 of them and was able to get the proper # of cores using the -v cpus=x arguments at boot. However, they would not 'stick' and it became apparent that I'd have to edit the boot .plist.

Having gotten thus far, I decided to re-try iAtkos v.7 rather than spend the time applying updates to 10.5.2. iAtkos worked beautifully with the correct BIOS settings, now have 10.5.7 on a couple C2D & CQD rigs. A big thanks to Apple, and to all the dev's plus those who posted with help. ;)

I just noticed this. How long have you waited after you see these errors?

Every time I do a retail install, I've noticed the disc gives me a string of EBIOS read errors, about 10 in all- then I get a message about 'there were errors reading the disc' but I just wait a bit and it goes right into the grey screen apple logo and boots. It's never made a whit of difference, and everything installs fine. I've seen the same thing for dozens of retail 10.5.4 discs for client builds. I'm just curious if you gave it a chance to go past the errors, because from my experience it's got to be a common thing.

Hmmm, you know- perhaps I should give the retail install another try; I don't think I let the error go past about 6 or so. I had read a forum post somewhere that the EBIOS error was due to either a flaw on the disc, or the optic drive's inability to read the disc...for whatever reason. I went with that theory and bought some DVD +DL discs and made a copy of the Retail disc, but got the same result.

Good stuff, thanks for pointing that out; I'll give the Retail install another go. I've got 3 'toshes running(two C2Q + a C2D) and am pleased with having 10.5.7 running on the quads, but I'll use the C2D box to experiment with.
