Quad motherboard with several PCI slots and SLI

I'm looking at building a new PC. I really like the new quad core Intel chips and I like the specs on the 680i chipset.

My problem is that the reference motherboard on the 680i seems to support 2 video in SLI, a third video in the PCI-E slot and has 2 PCI slots - but not all of these can be filled at once due to the configuration.

What I'd like to have is SLI, a 1x PCIE slot and several PCI slots - does this motherboard exist? The 680i spec claims it supports 5 PCI slots (they just haven't been put on the board <g>).

So what are my current and upcoming choices?

Dont think a SLI mobo exists in this form yet. It sounds like you want something like the P5W64 WS Pro but in a SLI supported form, correct? My guess is that ASUS will probably make a 680i SLI version eventually. Probably not till after January but you never know.

The motherboard you mention, however, is 4 PCI-E and 2 PCI; 3x3 or 2 x 4 PCI would be better for me these days - the motherboard is cheaper than upgrading sound, hardware RAID and other stuff to all PCI-E.

I'm not sure what use I'm really going to have for a physics card if I have quad cores and dual 8800's <g>.

Thanks for your reply.

To get more than 4 PCI slots without SLI, or more than 3 PCI slots with SLI, you'll probably have little other choice but to look towards an industrial PC or server motherboard, to the tune of a couple hundred bills (or more).
