Quad Core in a Laptop

I use my laptop as a desktop replacement and do significant number crunching in such a way that a quad-core would probably be useful.

Does anyone know of where to find such a beast?

If not, how long till we see such a thing?

In any case, what is the best laptop CPU out there now (it seems that the latest and greatest Core2Duos are not available in the laptop world)?

Thanks,

J

If you want to spend the money try voodoo pc. www.voodoopc.com
They sell laptop with 17" displays with quad-core. It's not cheap, but for work it may be worth it.

Several companies sell laptops with core2 extream processors also. Voodoo, Falcon-Northwest and some kits.

I'm not sure when they are coming out but what secret said sounds logical. Having a laptop with a desktop quad doesn't make much sense right now because of the immense amount of heat they produce. I would wait until intel comes out with notebook quads to prevent your lap from catching fire.

So these laptops are running off of the desktop version of Quad and Duo? The whole idea of that is pretty pointless if it still sucks up the same amount of power...might as well get a desktop unless you really need the mobility.

Yeah they are basically DTR class laptops, you basically still need to be plugged in but they over all take a smaller footprint.

We won't see Quad Core mobiles from intel till Native Quad Core's and that means Nehalem.
