quad-core CPU-z reading as dual core-Newbie question

CPU: Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6850
MB: Evga nForce 680i SLI 775 AR Version with p31 Bios
OS: dual boot WinXP/Vista:Ultimate 32 bit

Let me preface this by saying I know I am making a boneheaded mistake somewhere, please help me find it.

When i run CPU-Z it correctly lists the CPU but then it states that I am only running 2 cores/2 threads. The pictures that I have seen in reviews of this CPU show it running 4cores/4 theads in CPU-Z. Is there a setting in the Bios that i must enable in order for the computer to see that the chip is a quad-core? Is the chip that I have defective?
Is there something within windows that I must enable for it to see/use quad-core?

I know that these are simplistic questions but I am hoping for some help.

I dont know what BIOS the EVGA boards are on, but is that the newest one?

Yes, but it isn't a setting-- you have to reset your BIOS. It sounds crazy, but when changing from a dual-core to a quad-core, the first thing you do is reset the BIOS, save it, then go back into the BIOS, and change the settings that need to be changed back to what they were before you reset the BIOS.

Thank you for the imput. I removed the CPU and went back to the old one until a new Heatsink/Fan arrive later this weekend. I will try a full BIOS reset, and re-do the BIOS settings.

Snakexor: yes, the p31 bios was the BIOS EVGA released to deal with some quad-core issues.

You do realize that you have to already have the quad core installed, when you reset the BIOS, don't you? Just checking.
