This is good news, considering that RAM is the single biggest bottleneck in the PC industry. Also, this technology will soon be followed by DDR 2. Looks like RAMBUS could be extinct soon. Here's the article that discusses the release of QBM:

I guess I should have said "exluding hard drives", as that is kind of a given.

not like rambus isn't ramping up its speeds either. rambus should be easy to ramp due to its serialized/protocol based nature. much more modern of a memory interface than sdram. and of course they could also make it wider. rambus will probably be around, for better or worse.

I agree that Rambus will probably be around, for better or for worse, for some time. It just seems that with their only real friend in the business (Intel) scurrying as fast as they can to put their support behind DDR supported mobos for their P4's, that DDR and it's predecessors will continue to push the expensive and overhyped RAMBUS technology to the curb. That is, unless Intel finds a way to maximize the bandwidth advantage that RAMBUS has over DDR (seems unlikely now that they're straddling the fence with both technologies). Rambus needs new friends, or it could find itself going the way of the cyrix.
