Hi i just put together a new computer running at stock speeds

Hardware:
Intel quad 6600 (2.4 ghz)
Gigabyte GeForce 8800GTS 512MB GDDR3, PCI-Express 2.0, 2xDVI/HDCP
Mobo: MSI P35 NEO-FI, P35, Socket-775, DDR2, 1333FSB
Memory: Corsair TWIN2X 6400 DDR2, 4096MB CL5
Chassi: http://www.webhallen.com/prod.php?id=78972

I checked this article http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.aspx?i=3210&p=6

The idle temp should be much lower than what im getting. Im getting in bios over 40C idle (40-44) According to HWMonitor in windows its 38-42C. CPU temp got between 45-50C 30 min in Supreme Commander FA.

Not really sure how fast the fan is spinning according to bios it was 2500 rpm but not sure. The temperatures still seem too high for me, The cpu didnt have any cooling paste on it so i just went with the freezer 7 pro preapplied paste. Im also thinking that its possible that its not correctly attached to the cpu.

Is the temperatur normal? if not where can i change the fan speed?
Should i try to unmount and mount the fan again?

How's your airflow? 40C isn't bad idle temps for a Quad... You should look at your load temps. If they are higher then 70C, reseat the cooler and take some of the thermal paste off, as AC may have pre-applied too much.

Airflow is decent. Have i 2 120mm fans in the case on on the back blowing out cpu air and one in the fron of the case blowing air in. Just wanted to check if the temps are what they should be and if its ok to overklock

thanks for the reply
