Qs about optical drives

Hiya!

Just some questions about DVD-ROM, DVD Burners drives.

I still have a DVD-ROM and a CD Burner in my computer but I was asking myself, why have 2 drives when you can have a DVD Burner that reads and burns CDs and DVDs?

Is the reading faster on a DVD-ROM or the same as a DVD Burner?

Thanks!

Read the unit specs, but I usually find that the speed of a multi-disk burner on CD-R and CD-RW is very similar to that on a plain older CD-RW burner. Just becasue it CAN do DVD's at other speeds does not change that. The only difference may be that the new multi-format units MAY be a little faster on CD_RW just because ALL CD-RW systems have gotten a little better.

Actually, I like having two drives - my system has two DVD-RW drives, one including Lightscribe ability. Makes it easier to make copies of optical disks of any type.
