QQ: Can you use USB modem in Mandrake8.2 & RH7.3?

Im a linux newb - gonna install in a week. Can a USB modem work alright with these distros?

what kind of USB modem? The Alcatel SpeedTouch USB DSL Modem has downloadable drivers for Linux. I think it depends on the modem in question and whether the manufacturer has Linux drivers for it. I may be wrong though, I haven't messed with actual telephone-modems in a long time 😛 -- there may be some built-in support, esp. if certain standards are adhered to, or if you have a major brand.
