I'm thinking about purchasing a QoS router and a 1Gb Switch, will QoS work across both devices? The 4th port of the router will be an uplink to the swtich.

As long as it the same network (No Routing in between) it would work.

I wouldn't drop any extra cash on it though - its unlikely that you'll see any benefit in most SOHO deployments.

What I'm looking for is online gaming, when I'm playing Xbox live and my fiancee is downloading files or what not I want the xbox to have priority.

It's not going to matter in a home environment at lan speeds and most likely the switch doesn't have any qos anyway.

I realize the switch doesn't have QoS, what I'm asking is if the switch is connected to the QoS router, will the switch be immune to the QoS or not?

It's not going to matter because the switch doesn't have QoS and you're operating at lan speeds. Your gaming will not be negatively affected.

If your router supports QoS you might be able to apply QoS on your out going traffic, but then you will not have the ability to control incoming traffic. So I would doubt you're going to see any noticeable effects.

Think of the switch as transparent. If its not managed the router has no idea its there. A computer plugged into the switch will talk to the internet the same way it would if it was plugged into the router.
