I've heard a lot of good things about these Buffalo models. I seen the WHR54GS for just $42 at buy.com, so figure $32 after Google Checkout, or maybe I can find something else I want and get the $20 off $50.

We are using an old Linksys BEFWS114 v4 or something like that. It's a 802.11b, but wireless doesn't concern me ATM since I don't care for it and dont have a wireless card, so I will just run a cheap cable for now.

Does the WHR54GS have QoS stock, or do I need to flash to 3rd party like DD-WRT?

Mostly I'm getting downright tired of having our 5mbps/512kbps completely useless thanks to people getting torrents 24/7. The few hours a day I use the computer, I'd like the internet to be useful and not be getting kicked off BF2 servers because my ping is too high (a measure used to keep dial-up users off, not friggin' 5mbps cable). So does this work good against torrents, and is the router good all around for handling heavy traffic caused by bit torrent? The old Linksys we have is pretty bad for this.

Is this the best router for ~$40 (less after deals)? Seems like a steal.. gigabit ethernet would be nice too since I have onboard gigabit ethernet.

bump... actually looks like that WHR54GS model doesn't have gigabit ethernet ports, but not a big deal I suppose. Plus I'd need a long cat6 cable AFAIK. I guess if I wanted wireless I could jut pick up another WHR54GS for ~$35 to use as a 125mbps wireless card.

Of the Entry level Wireless Router, only the expensive mediocre D- Link Gaming Router has useful Qos as is.

Linksys, Buffalo, and some other have Qos when Flushed.

If you really need it, you can find 1 Giga switch for less than $20. No need to deicide upon a Wireless Router because of the switch part, there are more important considerations when it comes to Routers and Wireless.

So you're saying the Buffalo could do it but would require 3rd party firmware like DD-WRT?

Just kind of confused.. I assume it was a typo and you meant 'flashed' not 'flushed'

LOL. My perception is that you Flush, the Flash memory.

Yes,once you use a Buffalo with DD_WRT you can do Qos with the Buffalo.

Here you have a WriteUp.

I see. How about, Is it better to have QoS builtin as a default or flashing for newer firmware won't be a concern?

So when you have a good power computer with Windows 98, you should not upgrade to WinXP since the default OS is better.

There is No "builtin", Wireless Routers (or wired Routers) are little computers and the firmware is the OS.
