Howdy,

I have a Linksys WRT54G v4 that I'm thinking about putting DD-WRT on and using the QoS features of it.

I have my home network as follows:

RoadRunner cable modem -> Primary Router
Primary Router -> Wireless Router, Main Switch, VoIP Gizmo
Main Switch -> All the hardwired PCs in my house.

The "Primary Router" is where I'll be putting my WRT54G v4.

I want to setup QoS so that the VoIP box has top priority over everything. Then after that, I want BT or Newsgroup action to have bottom priority. Everything else (email, web browsing, etc would just be generic in the middle somewhere.

I'm trying to figure out the best way to do this.

Can I setup the QoS by the physical port on the router to say Port 1 gets high priority and then plug my Gizmo into Port 1 or do I have to do it by MAC? I guess either way would work fine. As for BitTorrent and Newsgroups, is that easiest done by specifying all the various ports that the various PCs are setup to use? I have BT on a 2 PCs and do Newsgroups on 1 of them.

I'm just looking for input as to what would be the best way for me to set this up so that nothing interferes with my phone quality and that BT or Newsgroups don't ever kill everything else by sucking up everything.

Thanks!!

I have a 54GL and DD-WRT. I'm setting up QoS very soon and I'll keep track of what I do.

VOIP - 1st
BT - 2nd when a call comes in, slow down BT
http - when loading pages, slow down BT

That's all I'm going to do.

Base it on MACs only if you have to (programs that change ports frequently), but for stuff that you will be aware of...nothing that a roommate will go rouge with, jsut base the configuration on ports...
