this is my first time installing winxp on a sata hdd so i need to clarify some stuff
im currently using a 40gb ide hdd as a single and i want it to be the storage drive
so right now i got a sata 80gb which i want it to be the main Os
im using is7-e and im not doing raid whatsoever
so winxp will detect the sata as ide3?
do i have to unplug my ide hdd to install the sata because i heard people say that winxp will
assign drive d: for sata
is there any hassle-free way to get around this minor issue
btw,if the install is a success...can i still use my 40gb as a storage drive even if its a single drive?
thanks

it will very easily if you have SP2 slipstreamed with winxp...otherwise you will probably need drivers from a floppy for winxp to see the drive

The best way you can go about this is to disconnect the IDE drive during XP installation. You may need to provide the SATA driver off a floppy during initial install by hitting F6.

When you reconnect the IDE drive for storage, you may need to make an adjustment in the BIOS to set the SATA drive as the first boot device.

when I installed my sata hdd with slipstreamed winxp sp2 there were no drivers needed unless I wanted to RAID
