Another forum member and I are checking out Qnext.
It's currently in beta and it's free. Later it'll be a subscription service.
The nice thing is that a specific group can exchange files without any "looking in". The app encrypts files for transmission and decrypts on arrival.
It's got an integrated IM module that you can supposedly tie in to your normal messenger.
My hopes are to create a closed group who can share stuff without fear of reprisal.
Of course, (insert disclaimer here).

The cool thing about Qnext is that yes, you can share all your illegal, stolen stuff.
The real, and what I see as the best use, is to share private or sensitive files. Workgroup stuff and file distribution among a closed user base is a hell of an idea. Client data can be transferred simply and safely among an expanded workgroup.
If there's anyone here that can't steal all the files they want, then they've been living under a rock.
That's not what this is about.
The opportunity to P2P without fear of reprisal or snooping is a nice touch, but the real advantage comes in the security and the abilty to exchange information regardless of type or filesize.

File transfer is directly P2P but the network is administrated through a central server.
It allows you to create usergroups with special permissions. You can set each user to have their own permission level. Those are on a direct P2P base, so far as I can tell.
The usergroups are called "zones", but I have yet to figure out exactly how that works.
I have been able to share files in either direction.

So far as I know, yes on both counts.
I found the review in pc magazine initially. The review covered a number of new apps and qnext seemed to be the best and least restrictive of all of them.
The review also covered the legality issues and it appears they have found a temporary workaround.
If you are sharing files illegally, not getting caught does not make it legal.
This app will allow you to exchange your software, files, etc. between remote machines, saving burning and mailing chores. That's where it's going to help me in my business on a personal basis.

I dont think the MPAA is going broke anytime soon infact if i remember correctly they made record earnings this past summer. Stealing is wrong but coming off frothing at the mouth doesn't support yuour cause much either.

I don't advocate intellectual property theft. I do advocate fair use.
My point (sarcastically stated) was that mastering warez takes the IQ of a shoe. People are going to do it regardless of the morality.
This app is the first one I've seen that allows decent people to manage a project, share their files, and do it without being impacted by "prying eyes".
I think it's a big step in the right direction, and it's an excellent tool.

So... it stealing's okay as long as you're stealing from a big corporation? Or someone with a lot of money? This is flawed logic. By this logic it should be okay with you if a homeless crackhead breaks into your house and robs you. I mean, you make plenty of money, right?

The reality is that they're not going to pay Tom Cruise or a big studio exec less money. But it does affect me, because I get paid per DVD sold. Less DVDs sold = less money to put food on my table.

Can I file a complaint with you about the commercials and ads I'm forced to watch on DVDs I've bought or rented? Try to fast forward or skip to the root menu and you get an "Operation not permitted by disc."

I think it's still around. But, it was a bear to setup and administer. At imeem, we are creating a similar, encrypted p2p network for communication. We're also encrypting chat conversations and provide a private blogging environment, with hooks to post to outside blogs if desired. This kind of next-gen p2p network will show that there are many things you can do over the internet without needing centralized servers and complicated access control lists.
