USD $50 off w/ promo code 1229YEC226, limited offer

$269.00 - $50 promo = $219.00

An excellent price for a capable 4-bay NAS.

If I didn't already have one, I'd buy another.

Btw, the older firmwares, had a 16TB net volume size limit, but if you install a drive, and then use "QFinderPro" to trigger the NAS remotely to do a firmware upgrade, and then set it up, the 4.2.2 firmware will let you set the "inode size", which allows you to control the net capacity of your RAID volume, within the sizes that your drive(s) allow.

I've considered getting a NAS to use for media storage and BT client, so I would no longer need to keep a PC online around the clock for that purpose. Have you used your NAS for torrenting at all? If not, what is your primary usage?

It would be nice to be able to eliminate the need for a computer for media storage/server and torrenting, but I'm unsure of how well a NAS will handle torrenting, so I've never taken the leap.

Edit: After reading the reviews on Newegg, my concern that it may not be powerful enough for torrenting and HD video streaming remains. D'oh.

I've not used any of my QNAP NAS units for Torrenting, but I used to use my IX2-DL Lenovo / EMC NAS for that, with Linux ISOs. It worked just fine, I had like 100 torrents seeding. Granted, its performance as a NAS slowed down quite a bit while seeding all of those torrents, but it was still somewhat usable.

It was might convenient, though. Just access a share, drop off the .torrent file in one directory, then come and pick up your file in a different directory a few hours later. You could also connecet via the admin interface, and connect to the Transmission torrent web client, and view and control the torrents in your web browser.
