This is a well-known QNAP dealer, and they appear to have "dibs" on some of the first shipments of this eagerly-anticipated budget 5-port 2.5GbE-T switch.

Price is around where I thought that it would be ($99.00 MSRP), but this is a pretty decent improvement over 8-port 2.5GbE-T managed switches, which often went for $500+.

Also, passively-cooled, low-power.

Will add more vendors, when they get them in stock.

(Also listed at Adorama.com, and Amazon.co.uk, but OOS.)

Edit: 2020-09-26: Finally! A listing for this switch was added to Amazon.com!

Edit: Use this listing instead (for sale by Amazon):

Nice! Finally seems like the chipset costs have come down. :)

One thing that I never realized is that 2.5G only really adds 500Mbs since 1G full duplex is 2G. So the gains where 1G/2G is maxing out won't be too significant.

Err, no, I don't think it works that way. 1Gbit/sec FD, is INCREASED to 2.5Gbit/sec, AFAIK, also FD. So 5Gbit/sec bi-dir, but only 2.5Gbit/sec one direction.

Unless there's some aspect of the physical signalling that I don't understand.

At least for uni-directional (except for the ACKs) file-copies, from my client OS with NVMe SSD, and a NAS with RAID-5 and 2.5GbE-T (via USB3.0), I get 270-280MB/sec reads, and 185-190MB/sec writes to the RAID-5. WIth 1GbE-T, I was getting 112MB/sec both ways.

That's initially what I thought too. But because the 2.5G spec borrows from 10G, which is only full duplex, the 2.5G and 5G are also full duplex. So our current 1G when compared to them should also be viewed full duplex, ie as 2G.

However, your results definitely show how 2.5G is much faster than 1G, so not sure what to believe anymore, lol.
