I have an Intel oro840 motherboard with dual 933PIII. A 3D Prophet II gts 64MB video card running on Window Professional 2000. Still no matter what the resolution I can only get about 60fps out of qIII.

I disabled vsync on the video card which had virtually no effect. I set com_maxfps in the game to over 85 and this didn't help. Why am I capping at about 65 fps no matter the resolution? I have the latest drives and directx 8 installed.

i have a similar system [speed wise] and i get a constant 100fps in 1024x768 with all the goodies turned on, so your frames are definatly low. there are a number of things to look for here. first try setting r_smp to 1, do this by either putting "r_smp 1" in the q3config or into the console, but if you put it in the console, you'll have to restart q3. second of all, what are the other settings? like 16/32 bit textures/colors, high/med/low geometry. and bilinear/trilinear filtering. also make sure you are using gl extensions are on and that you are using the default gl driver. what driver[vid card] version are you using? what q3 version are you running. if these first few ideas don't help, give me the extra info and we'll see if we can track it down. i hope this helps, SYST3M, if this works, you have to try the CCTF mod. link is in my sig [but you should try it anyway].

I'm using the latest detonator drivers by nvida, I keep r_smp off because it doesn't improve performance in win 2000 so I was told and it seems to be true. All my settings are the default settings for the system. IE at 640x400 the normal settings at 1024x768 high quality etc. It's strange that it caps at about 65 fps no matter what resolution.

r_smp does improve performance, but not really like you'd expect. it really only helps when you get a lot of action on screen, ie when other single cpu systems would start to bog down. make sure you have gl extensions on, using the default driver, and also check to see if fsaa is enabled in the drivers, like quan said. if yopu are using 7.xx drivers, try down-grading to 6.32, as i know thos drivers don't have as many problems as the 7 series does.
