Qietest 6800GT

although u may get ur answer i think it will b very difficult for ur question to be answered simply becuase most people dont have the time or cash to own many different 6800GT's made by different companies.

hmm for $40 you can get that giant aluminum block thing with a optional fan(i just tend to find a 80-120mm case fan and tape it on). (forgot what it's called but weighs in at 500g or something)

The evga 6800 gt is pretty quiet. I have one and put an nv5 cooler on it and while it is quieter than the stock, it's not a huge difference.

NVidia's stock cooler (the same one used on the eVGA) is pretty quiet.

Stay away from: Leadtek and BFG. Although they make some of the best cards on earth right now, they tend to be pretty loud.

I think the Leadtek's and the MSI's non-reference coolers are the quietest, judging from the reviews I've read. Dunno how the heatpipe-packing Gigabyte (or is it Chaintech? I keep forgetting) sounds with its single, smallish fan on top.

ive heard that the heatpipe gigabyte does a subpar job of cooling it though. it won't affect your card, but you won't be able to OC as high.

Ive installed the Gigabyte for people before. you guys are right, it is not a better solution for cooling, in fact, it is worse. Temps are definately higher with that card than the other 6800GT's.

If you want the "coolest looking" 6800GT, get the gigabyte, it looks awesome. If you want the coolest, go elsewhere.

The red MSI is nice and quiet, and i have yet to see one that wouldnt do ultra speeds in a decently cooled case.

The Evga is always a good choice.

BFG is a bit loud, but still a good performer.

Leadtek is a good one, and also the one i think i am going to pick up for myself in a week or two.

The MSI has a fan controller on it. Even on high it stays as quiet as the Evga does.

I have the MSI. THere is a slider, but it only really goes 2 speeds, as far as I can tell. The only problem is that when I put it on low, there is a really annoying high pitched whine. I can't find anyone who also has the card so I don't know if it is normal. I don't know where the whine is coming from, if I stop the fan with my finger, the whine is still there and goes away when i keep the fan stopped and move slider to the max speed.

I don't really know what to do about it, I'm not sure if I want to go through the trouble of RMA if my card is defective, but I also don't really want to buy and install a new cooler. I might sell the card to a friend who will pay $20 less than what I bought it for and get a different brand.

EDIT:
What the heck? This 2nd consecutive post was supposed to be an edit. sorry about that.

gigabyte has a excellent card with giant heatpipe heatsink/fan combo. heard it was quiet.

Be careful it might block something in the casing, while it's good to have fancy stuff we need to be practical as well.

For MSI the cooling effect is below average as I see from other posts. besides these others, XFX cards seems not bad, I think as long as the noise level is below that of CPU/power supply, who cares.

I would agree. Looking at the pictures, I don't think the Gigabyte card would fit in my PC. I have a MSI K8N neo2 Platinum with a Zalman CNPS 7000B-AlCu. Since the fan of the Gigabyte is on the back of the video card, it would be between the card's PCB and the CPU fan. On my computer, the fan would be too thick.

I posted my results on my card temps on the "Wat is your V. Card's Temp" thread and it seemed fairly average if not a bit high. However, that is on the "Turbo" fan setting when the card is really loud.
