Hi all!
I have an AMD Athlon(tm) XP1600 using a QDI's k7v8366 kudo z7 running on WIN XP.
The other day all the sudden I couldn't get into the OS! I de-mount the drive and save all my data and then I tried to install the oS from the very beggining. Everything was going ok untill I was asked to reboot the PC. The configuration was to search for CD drive first then for HDD. I pressed nothing and the system booted from the CD once more! I changed the configuration to 1st booting device HDD, 2nd CD but the same happened again.
It seems to me that I have a severe problem with my BIOS. I don't know what, that's why I ask your help.
All remarks or instructions are welcomed at this point.
Thank you,
D.

I revived one Duron 600 machine a couple of months ago, and had the same thing.

That board's BIOS has an "ultra quick boot" feature that you need to disable. Else it just won't "do" your configuration changes. Had me scratching my head for a while, that ... and I'm a BIOS engineer ;)

Thanks Peter, but I don't seem to find this feature " ultra quick boot". Can you guide me where to search?
Thanks again, D

It's got some silly QDI name. I can't remember, and the system is with its new user now, so I can't look it up either. It's right at the top of the "advanced" page of BIOS setup. Looking at the board's page on qdigroup.com, I _think_ it's BootEasy.

My Foxconn board has something similar, called SuperBoot. Getting into BIOS and making a change will disable it for the next boot, and re-enable it for boots thereafter (unless you set it to Disabled). If you can't get into BIOS, cheat - take out the CMOS battery for a few minutes, or adjust the CMOS jumper to Clear, try to boot, then put it back and boot and go into BIOS. In either case you should get the POST screen and it should tell you which key to hit to enter Setup.

well, I found it Peter and it was disabled!
I even enabled it but still nothing. Any other ideas, or any suggestion on a better motherboard for AMD Athlon XP 1600?

Well, it is not a jumber but a disablement in the BIOS features, and I did it. BIOS is upgraded it and I still have the same troubles.
I changed the bus from Motherboard to HDD and now it boots ok, but it can read from the HDD. It recognises the drive but when it goes to start Windows from that drive, nothing happens and asks for boot disk from the CD rom.
Any more ideas?
