QAM and no channel identifiers

So why is it that QAM tuners like HDhomerun have such a hard time with identifying what channel is what? I am beyond frustrated trying to get Windows Media Center 7 to setup channels properly. The best you can is to get them to show up in the guide without proper identification. Then you have to go in and rename all the channels to the correct network. Now you add another tuner and it nukes all your hard work. Is anyone else as frustrated as I am with QAM clear or otherwise?

Yup. Part of why I went to rabbit ears. That and the less compressy bettery picture quality of the OTA channels. I have NEVER seen a QAM setup that actually worked well.

Well what about the cable card option? This would unencrypt the HD channels but would have have the station identifiers at that point? I don't want to pay for a mess.

It's not an issue with a cablecard tuner. With QAM tuners it's a mess because stations reassign IDs and frequencies as they please and there is no standard for updating that info in 7MC so some QAM stations don't show up while others will duplicate themselves over time because of the changes a provider makes. CC tuners don't suffer from that same problem.
