Q9650 vs i3 or i5

Which i3 or i5 would be comparable to my Q9650 ? I am thinking of moving to a little more greener setup mainly due to leaving my Main rig on/idling for recording TV with my 2250 Hauppauge! for later playback.

I'll probably be doing the same old usual, playing back M2T files through Splash Lite, ripping DVD & Blue Ray Disks, Windows Movie Maker video editing, ATOT, watching HD movies, usual surfing, emailing, multiple tabbing, social networking, etc.

I was first considering the i3 530 but I think I might want turbo so the i5 650 is also a consideration.

Thanks

I5 750 is the only I3/I5 that would offer more performance, the dual core I3/I5 6XX series will be weaker than your C2Q.

Unless your electricity bill is higher than you want you might as well just wait until Sandy Bridge. I only say this because you don't want to sacrifice performance and I don't blame you for that.

Q9650=95w TDP
i3 530=73w TDP
i5 661=87w TDP
i5 750=95w TDP

You're not really gonna get any greener by doing this

TDP doesn't tell you how much power he will be using in the various ways that he uses his computer.

I would just undervolt that Q9650 as low as you can get it, underclock it too

worry about the volts first. i'm quite sure you could do 2.4 ghz at 1 volt. if you can post with less then it is more permissible to do this than reduce the clock speed. don't go any slower than 200x9.

It does demonstrate that even with drastic measures, the most he could stand to save on average would be... 25w maybe? He'd be better off switching some lightbulbs to fluorescent, or buying recycled paper, or something

He'd probably get the most power-savings w/ just shutting the 'puter down overnight when it's not in use.

I can run at stock 2.8 ghz (8.5 x 333) at 1.076v with my q9550.
