Well, I've been pondering where to go to get me a 4GHz quad, everything is line up.
already sold my Q9550 C1
I know the Q9550-s has a TDP of 65W vs 95W of the regular quad.
where the Q9650 (E0) and X3370 & X3380 uses lower voltages @ same clock.

do you think the s quad would consume even less volts (read: higher overclock at same volts as regular quads/lower volts at same clock).

I'm really itching to get my hands on a Q9650.

any advice/ideas/urls with the s class overclocks are welcome!

Q9550 = X3360 = 8.5x multi

X3370 = Q9650 = 9x multi

X3380 = Q9770 (if it came out) = 9.5x multi

All the cpu's come in E0 however the last 2 lines are gaurentee'd E0's.

X3380 is gonna be expensive, but 9.5 multi will be very scary.

if you have the budget to afford the last 2 lines, those are gaurentee'd 4ghz air clockers with top tier air sinks.

Then scratch your itch and get that Q9650 that you are dieing to get!!
I wouldnt bother with the s class till there is atleast a q9650s thats the only one that will really count.
Plus you are gaurentee'd 4Ghz with a q9650 and at those speeds you can knock out anything you throw at it with the speed of lightning!!

I had a similar question, is there any good reason to buy a server X3370 vs a Q9650? I always assumed server chips were quality tested a bit more but there does not seem to be a clear consensus if they are better for a regular desktop/game machine.

Might overclock more on lower voltage, that's all.

I've gotten 3.8 and 4.25 on two q9550's, from reading boards the avg overclock with q9650 is around 4ghz. If you want guaranteed 4 ghz spend for the 9650, but for the difference in price I think the 9550 is still the better buy.

Thanks you guys!

I'll just get my hands on the Q9650 tomorrow afternoon. As far as price I am not that much bothered. Here in Holland, I do not know a store that can guarantee me a Q9550 E0. Whereas the Q9650 comes E0 without hassle. I'm not even going to deal with a 50 euro difference when I'm not sure if my next Q9550 *might* be an E0 stepping.
Fortunately I am an owner of the TRUE 120, ordered it pre-lappend somewhere last year, so that should work out just fine =)

But first thing's first, I am going to lap my new cpu right off the bat. =)

:thumbsup:

You'll not be disappointed with a Q9650.

I can attest to this, I went from a Q9400 to a X3330 which are basically the same chip. They clocked exactly the same, I mean EXACTLY.

If the overclock are exactly the same using 2 different cpu's, I'm fairly sure it is your MB that is limiting you. You probably have not even touched the max speed of either cpu.

This may be true because the P45 Neo3-FR is a downright shitty overclocker with 4 phase power :p.

Yeah say that to his Cherry 780i.

How do we know its cherry? It used to belong to me.

on some cases Q9650 will overclock better then X3370, and other cases the X3350 will overclock better then the Q9550.

its still all in the luck of the draw my friend.
