Q9550 + Gigabyte P35-DS3L?

Has anyone tried this or have tried this on any p35 chipset? Should I be able to overclock this to 3.4GHz (400Mhz FSB) at least?

I'm using a Xigmatek hdt-s1283 cooler not lapped.
Auto Ram setting@4-4-4-15 (4gb 2.1v)
Voltages:
ddr2=+.3v
pci-e=+.1v
fsb=+.1v
mch=+.1v
cpu=1.17500v
Mine will go higher, but it takes a big jump in voltage.
My cpu rated for 1.25v max on retail box.
Use a Antec Sonata III case w/500 psu = VERY Quiet and Cool!

I have read that "you will run into issues with RAM higher than DDR2 800".

Have you tried it on this particular motherboard? I am wondering because I have seen some recent complaints about this motherboard. This board is notorious for vdroop.

Yes, I have a DS3L and yes, the vdroop is considerable, but easily fixed. It can be penciled to correct the vdroop problem.

Did you have to mod it to get the q9550 to run at 400FSB?

I have a Q9300 and I had to do nothing to get it to 400Mhz other than adjust the Bios. Core voltage wasn't much of an issue considering I was only 500Mhz above stock CPU speed, but my vdroop was around .03v under load, if that helps.

not easy as cake. 8.5 x 400 would lock my system left and right even with 1.3375 cpu voltage set in the bios... Cpu-z reporting 1.29 v ish under load. I had upped the FSB overvoltage to +.2v didnt help much lasted a few hours before crash, I dont want to push it to +.3v and cause problems with the south bridge.

This is with the vdroop mod penciled. I even couldnt get 8x400 stable ironically it would lock even more. Either I got a bad chip or the board stinks. Tried just about everything. Cpu temps were around 65 while running prime 95 small fft.

In the end, i am running it stock. Oh well 🙂
