I have been resisting the jump to quad-core, because I like my high clocked dual. But I think this chip would be the sweet spot for me....

Any idea what this thing is supposed to drop to due to Q9450 EOL? This is one sexy beast, but $560????

Scheduled to hit 317, but limited supply will probably mean it'll hover above that for a while

It will drop in price whenever Intel releases the Q9650, sometime in the third quarter, IIRC.

Patiently .... waiting ....

The Q9450 was my intended target, but with its impending EOL, I've decided the 9550 is the chip for me. I agree with Chrono that it will not sell at retail, so between that and a video card decision/wait on cards I am going to end up building my 'summer' rig in the fall.

July 22nd for the price drop. Likely to coincide with the new chip rollout, but that's not confirmed.

Isn't Intel supposed to be ramping up 45nm production in Q3 also?

i think its all geared to neha and enterprise.
The enterprise side gets all the nicer and fun stuff first.

And that craptasic multi makes me want to cry.
